Concrete & Pavers FAQs
What's the difference between concrete and pavers?
Poured concrete is a single solid slab — lower upfront cost, very durable, but cracks are difficult to repair without replacing the whole section. Pavers are individual interlocking units — higher upfront cost, but individual pavers can be replaced if damaged, they handle ground movement better, and they look significantly more upscale. For patios and walkways, we typically recommend pavers. For driveways, both work well.
How much does a paver patio cost?
A basic paver patio in the Triad NC runs $15–$25 per square foot installed. Premium pavers and complex designs run $25–$40+. A typical 400 sq ft patio costs $6,000–$16,000 depending on paver selection and features like built-in seating walls or fire pits. We provide free detailed quotes.
How long do pavers last?
Quality concrete pavers installed on a proper base last 25–50 years or more. Natural stone pavers last even longer. The key is proper base preparation — 6–8 inches of compacted gravel base prevents settling and maintains the integrity of the installation.
Do you install fire pits and outdoor kitchens?
Yes. We design and build fire pit areas, outdoor seating walls, and outdoor kitchen foundations as part of patio installations. These features add significant outdoor living value and we incorporate them into the overall design.
How long does paver installation take?
A typical residential patio (300–500 sq ft) takes 3–5 days. This includes base preparation, paver installation, edging, and jointing sand application. Larger or more complex projects may take 1–2 weeks.
Can pavers be installed over an existing concrete slab?
Sometimes — it depends on the condition of the existing slab. If it's level and structurally sound, thin overlay pavers can be installed on top. If the slab is cracked or uneven, it's usually better to remove it and start fresh with a proper gravel base. We assess this during the free site visit.
